Every sales methodology since consensus-buying became the norm has told reps the same thing: get more stakeholders on the thread. Multi-thread the account, find the economic buyer, loop in the end users, don't let the deal live or die with one champion. It's good advice. It's also frequently mistaken for the thing that wins deals, when it's usually just the thing that shows up once a deal was already winning.

Deals with five engaged stakeholders close more often than deals with one. That's true, and it's the statistic every enablement deck leans on to justify pushing reps toward more multi-threading activity. But look at the causal direction for a second: does adding stakeholders make a deal more likely to close, or does a deal that's genuinely valuable to the buyer naturally pull more stakeholders in on its own, because people who actually need the thing go find the other people who need to sign off on it?
Reps who chase the second explanation by forcing the first — cold-emailing five names at an account that has one lukewarm champion — usually get five lukewarm responses, not five champions. The stakeholders were never the source of momentum. They were evidence of it. Worse, forcing threads too early can actively slow a deal down: a VP who gets cold-emailed by a vendor before their own team has bought in internally tends to respond with skepticism, not enthusiasm, because the outreach arrived ahead of the internal case for it.

The deals that multi-thread themselves share a common trait: the initial signal was strong enough that word spread inside the account without a rep forcing it. A champion who's genuinely excited brings colleagues into the conversation unprompted, because sharing a good find with your own team is a normal human instinct. A champion who signed up for a demo out of curiosity does not do this, no matter how many follow-up emails a rep sends asking them to.
That means the real lever isn't a multi-threading tactic bolted onto a mediocre initial conversation. It's making sure the initial conversation was strong enough to be worth spreading in the first place — the right person, hit with the right message, at a moment that actually mattered to them. Everything downstream, including how many stakeholders show up on the thread, is a readout on whether that first conversation landed. This is also why the best reps often multi-thread less deliberately than average reps: they're not working a checklist, they're simply having conversations good enough that the champion does the introducing for them.

The healthiest way to use multi-threading data isn't as a task list — "reach out to three more contacts at this account this week" — it's as a diagnostic. A deal that stays single-threaded past the second call is telling you something about the quality of the fit, not just about the rep's outreach discipline. That's a signal to re-qualify, not a signal to email harder. Forecasting on it works the same way in reverse: a pipeline review that treats stakeholder count as a health metric, rather than a forcing function, catches weak deals earlier — before three more weeks get spent trying to manufacture enthusiasm that was never there.
Inverting the causality here changes where teams spend their energy. Instead of building elaborate multi-threading playbooks to force momentum into deals that never had it, the higher-leverage move is upstream: making sure the accounts entering the pipeline and the first message they receive are matched well enough that the multi-threading takes care of itself. That's the part of the funnel Skyp is built around — per-contact personalization aimed at the signals that predict genuine fit, so the first conversation is one worth a champion forwarding to their own team, instead of one a rep has to manually multi-thread their way around.
